Caleb Powell (’17)
How did you get started working in the GIS lab?
I started in the summer of 2013 before my freshman year after I toured the Lab on summer advising day. I saw GIS as a great opportunity to gain experience while still in college in a topic that interests me.
What projects have you been involved with?
So far I’ve worked on the Sandbox project, the campus fly-through, and 3D dorms
What projects are you currently working on?
Right now i’m working on two projects. The first is creating a 3D model of the Miller Library. In the end, it will be available for everyone to view, as well as incoming freshman who want to get a preview of what our library is like. So far i’ve used three programs, Revit to build the walls, floor and ceiling, 3Ds Max to build the furniture and bookshelves, and lastly Unity to assemble all of the parts, as well as putting the finishing touches on. We are projected to finish the first floor before the end of the year. The other people working on the project are Charlotte Cugnini and Alex Lucas.
What are your summer plans?
I’ll be working as a crewman on a dinner boat in Annapolis.
